Rajma Masala recipe

Rajma Masala


The heavenly combination Rajma Chawal. 

Simple to make , yet delicious protien rich meal and too mouthwatering to be missed! 






Preparation Time  :  10 minutes 
Soaking Time        : 6-8 hours
Cooking Time       : 30 minutes 


Ingredients : 

  • 2 cups Rajma beans (red kidney beans) 
  • 1 large onion diced into small pieces 
  • 3 tomatoes diced into small pieces 
  • 2 green or red chillis 
  • 2 garlic cloves 
  • some ginger grated (optional) 
  • salt tot taste 
  • 1 tsp of rajma masala 
  • 1/2 tsp of amchur powder (optional) 
  • 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder 
  • less than 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder 
  • 1/2 lemon to squeeze 
  • pinch of sugar and asafoetida 
  • 1 tsp of oil 

How to prepare : 



  • Wash and soak Rajma beans overnight and pressure cook it with 2-3 whistles 
  • Open the cooker lid and remove the excess water in a container to use later.
  • Dice onion and tomatoes and onions. 
  • Heat a tsp of oil and add asafoetida and red chillis into it. 
  • Add diced onion and saute till they turn translucent. 
  • Add tomatoes , ginger garlic and salt and mix well . 
  • Cook the tomatoes till they become soft , pulpy. 
  • Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, amchur powder,rajma masala powder and mix well. 
  • Add little sugar. 
  • Add the water which we kept aside from the cooker and let the gravy boiled till it becomes little thick and the masalas are absorbed nicely. 
  • Squeeze lemon and serve 
  • Serve it with chawal (rice) , parathas , onions, lemons
