When I want to get a feel of black dal / dal makhani and to cook fast and quick... i always go for masoor dal... though there is no comparision of taste as both have their own good taste and nutrition.. but yes its a close version for me !

Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Serves : 2 - 4
- Ingredients :
- 1 cup masoor dal
- 1 big onion or 2 small diced
- 1 big tomato or 2 small diced
- 2 -3 green chilis
- 2-3 garlic cloves
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala or rajma masala powder
- 1/2 lemon or 1 tsp of lemon juice
- some cumin seeds
- salt to taste
- sugar to taste (optional)
- Some coriander leaves
How to prepare :
- Wash Masoor Dal and pressure cook it with 1 and half glass of water for 2-3 whistles.
- In a wok or a pan add oil, cumin seeds , green chilis, garlic cloves and saute on a medium flame.
- Once the garlic cloves starts turning brown, add onion and saute till they turn pink.
- Add tomatoes and saute again till they turn little soft.
- Add turmeric, chili, coriander cumin and garam masala or rajma masala and 2 tsp of water and saute. Water is just so that all the dry masala do not stick to the pan.
- Add masoor dal , salt , sugar, lemon juice and mix everything nicely and let it simmer on a medium flame for 10 minutes.
- Decorate with coariander leaves and serve hot with rotis, parathas, rice.
