Gujrati Kadhi Recipe

Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 15-20 minutes
Serves : 2-4

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup sour curd / yogurt or 1 glass of buttermilk
  • 1 tsp of besan / gram flour 
  • 2-3 green chillis 
  • 1 red dry chili 
  • 5-7 curry leaves 
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds 
  • some asafoetida 
  • 1/2 stick of cinamon 
  • 1 to cloves
  • 1/2 tsp of ghee 
  • salt to taste 
  • 2 tsp of jaggery or sugar 

How to prepare :

  • Mix besan and buttermilk and beat them nicely and let it settle for 10 minutes 
  • Add few curry leaves , salt , jaggery to this and let it boil for 5-10 minutes 
  • Heat ghee in a wok and add green chilis , red chili, and curry leaves (I prefer to add this first) 
  • Add cumin seeds and let it splutter , add cloves, cinamon , asafoetida and mix well. 
  • Add this tempering to the boiling kadhi. 
  • Let the kadhi boil for another 5 minutes. 
  • Add little (about 1 cup of water) to it if you find it turning thick. 
  • Serve it with khichdi or rice
