vadi papad nu shaak (Jain Recipe)

Vadi papad nu shaak or Mangodi means moong dal vadi alongwith papad. This is basically jain recipe and you can have this soupy vegetable alongwith bhakris or rotis. Wow during winters to slurp this curd based rasewali mangodi sabzi during winters.  



lets get started ! 

Preparation Time : 15 minutes 
Cooking Time : 15 minutes 
Serves : 2-3 

Ingredients :  
  • 1 cup mangodi or vadi 
  • 5-6 papad (any brand) just tear them into big pieces 
  • 1/2 cup curd 
  • 1/2 cup water 
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder 
  • 1/2 tsp coriander cumin powder 
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds 
  • salt to taste 
  • pinch of sugar 
  • pinch of asafoetida 
  • few corriander leaves 
  • 2 glass of water to just steam the papad for a minute 
  • 1 tsp of oil 
  • few methi seeds (fenugreek seeds) 
  • 2 green chilis 
  • 5-7 curry leaves 
How to prepare : 

  • Boil water just till it is lukewarm and add papad and just let it get steamed for 2 minutes or so and remove from the water with the help of spider / net spoon and keep it aside. 
  • Heat kadhai and add 1/2 tsp of oil and roast vadis till they turn little golden brown / pink. 
  • Remove the vadis and keep it aside. 
  • In a mixing bowl add curd , salt, turmeric, chili , coriander cumin powder and mix well 
  • heat oil in a kadhai add mustard seeds and let it splutter 
  • Add few fenugreek seeds , chilis and curry leaves and saute 
  • Add curd and half glass of water and let it come to boil just for 5-7 minutes 
  • Add vadi and papad both to it while serving if you like to have it soupy 
  • You can add it while cooking also but as mangodi soaks the water it may become dry 
  • Add coriander leaves and serve hot.
